| Stawka wieksza niz zycie (Stakes
higher than life), in Germany aired as: "Sekunden entscheiden", was a Polish
TV series, originally aired in the 60's, about a Polish WW II agent,
cryptonim J-23, in the German Abwehr (Ground forces). It was a huge success
in Poland, former Sovjet Union, East Germany and partially West Germany
- they were able to receive TV signal bordercrossing from East Germany.
Many East Block countries aired all sequels with great success, as well. |

| The plot was quite intriguing,
well conceived, acting on a good level (most roles). Admittingly,
there were some propaganda issues of those times hidden between the lines
or stated openly. J-23 was a Pole but working for the Soviet Intelligence
Service and being a Polish-Russian officer. In overall it is a solid suspence,
WW II, action packed, spy series. Each sequel having its own story, with
the handsome Captain Closs finding his way out of every oppression, not
at the end, however,... he falls in the hands of horrifyingly cruel SS.... |

| The series is in black & white,
remaster quality: good +. It is English subtitled (subtitles are optional).
The series was also very well known for its soundtrack and intro motif,
creating a strong and adequate tension during viewing (score by Jerzy Matuszkiewicz,
songs by Wojciech Kilar). |
